Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The determination of the inhibition of the oxygen consumption by activated sludge by the substance was performed according to OECD 209 under GLP (BASF AG, 1999; report no. 98/0899/08/1). Activated sludge from laboratory wastewater treatment plants treating municipal and synthetic sewage were used as inoculum. The test was considered valid based on the criteria of the guideline.

No significant inhibition of respiration was measured at the tested concentration of 1000 mg/L (nominal). Therefore, it can be concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when the substance is introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
