Based on the findings of a study in Daphnia magna the 48 -hr EC50 for immobilization of daphnia by DPGEE was extrapolated to be ~180 mg/L (77 - 425 95% CL). This result seems unusually low and is in fact lower than the NOEC from the reproduction (chronic) study. Also, US EPA ECOSAR software (v1.00a) estimates the 48 -hr Daphnid LC50 for dipropylene glycol monoethyl etherto be 2,297 mg/L, respectively. This is taken into account in the derivation of the short term PNEC. Together with a 96 hr LC50 value for freshwater fish at >200 mg/L (experimental) and with QSAR estimate exceeding 5000 mg/L and a NOEC >100 mg/L in aquatic single-celled algae neither the EU classification N; R50-52 nor the criteria for GHS classification Acute III are indicated. This conclusion is also reflected in the results of long-term study in freshwater fish and a study demonstrating no activity against microorganisms in sewage.
