Description of key information
Relevant exposure of soil is unlikely regarding the use of slags, tin-smelting. Use of this substance only takes place at a limited number of industrial sites and due to company´s implemented risk management measures release of slags, tin-smelting to the environment in general, and to soil can be excluded.
Even in case of unprecedented relevant exposure (e.g. due to an accident) the issue of (an)aerobic biodegradation in soil via microorganisms can be excluded due to the non-relevance of this degradation path for inorganic substances in general (as already considered for the aspect of ready biodegradability for REACH endpoint 9.2.1.1 "Ready biodegradability"). Environmental behaviour of slags, tin-smelting can be considered to be similar to sand or gravel.
Against this background simulation testing on degradation in soil does not need to be conducted under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH).
