First-aid measures

General advice:
Seek medical advice immediately. Ensure that the First Aid Personnel are aware of the product involved, and take precautions to protect themselves (e.g. wear personal protection equipment). Remove affected person from danger area, lay him down. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately
Keep warm, calm and covered up.

If inhaled:
Summon a doctor immediately. Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him calm.

On skin contact:
Take for medical treatment. In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with polyethylene glycol 400, then with plenty of water

On contact with eyes:
Begin with medical treatment. Rinse the affected eye with plenty of water, at the same time keep the unaffected eye well protected.

On ingestion:
When swallowed seek medical aid immediately and show the physician the packaging or the label of the packaging.

Note to physician:
Symptoms: Cyanosis (change of colour of lips and finger nails to blue gray). Methaemoglobinaemia.
Hazards: Risk of deterioration due to consumption of alcohol.
Treatment: Monitor blood circulation. Keep under medical supervision for at least 48 hours. If necessary, give oxygen. In the event of cyanosis give vitamin C, oxygen, keep out of sun. Against Methaemoglobin anemia: Give 300 ml Toluidine blue intravenously or 1 to 2 mg/kg Methylene blue intravenously.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: alcohol-resistant foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, water spray jet.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: full water jet.
Specific hazards during fire fighting: Fire will produce dense black smoke containing hazardous combustion products, such as Carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Do not inhale explosion and/or combustion gases. Use self-contained breathing apparatus.
Further information: Fire residues and contaminated firefighting water must be disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions: Wear personal protective equipment. Unprotected persons must be kept away. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Remove persons to safety.

Environmental precautions: Do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water. Prevent spread over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers).

Methods for cleaning up or taking up: Pick up with liquid binding materials and if necessary fill in containers capable of being locked. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly, observing environmental regulations. When picked up, treat material as prescribed under heading "Disposal".
Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with the regulations. Containers in which spilt substance has been collected must be adequately labelled.

Handling and storage

Handling: This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH regulation Article 17(3) for on-site isolated intermediates and, in case the substance is transported to other sites for further processing, the substance should be handled at these sites under the Strictly Controlled Conditions as specified in REACH regulation Article 18(4). Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at each Manufacturing site. Written confirmation of application of Strictly Controlled Conditions has been received from affected Distributor and Downstream Manufacturer/User of the Registrant's intermediate. Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation if necessary). Avoid formation of aerosols. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic loading. Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals.

Protection against fire and explosion: The product is combustible. The product vapours are heavier than air. Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Keep away from sources of ignition - refrain from smoking. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charges - earthing necessary during loading operations. Observe the general rules of industrial fire protection

Storage: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Protect from direct sunlight. Do not store or transport together with foodstuffs.
Do not store together with animal feedstocks.

Personal protective equipment
Respiratory protection: Full mask. Short term: filter apparatus, Filter A
Hand protection:Nitrile rubber applied on knitted cotton for mechanical stress. For short-term exposure (splash protection):
Nitrile rubber gloves. For long-term exposure: Butyl rubber gloves.
Eye protection: Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (e.g. EN 166)
Body protection: Impermeable protective clothing. Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).
General safety and hygiene measures: Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately and clean thoroughly before using again. Garments that cannot be cleaned must be destroyed (burnt). Keep away from foodstuffs and beverages. Clean hands and face during work intervals and after work. Do not breathe vapours, aerosols or mists. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Stability and reactivity

Hazardous reactions: Exothermic reaction with strong acids. Possible incompatibility with alkali sensitive materials.
Conditions to avoid: Exposure to air or moisture over prolonged periods. Exposure to light.
Materials to avoid: Plastic materials can be attacked. Incompatible with acid chlorides and acid anhydrides. Reactions with oxidising agents. Reactions with halogens. Reactions with acids. Halogenated hydrocarbons.

Disposal considerations

Special waste incineration plant, after consultation with operators. Observe local authority regulations. Packaging that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of as product waste.
