Study design

Oxygen conditions:
aerobic
Inoculum or test system:
activated sludge, non-adapted
Details on inoculum:
Origin: wastewater treatment plant Hildesheim - clarifier
Bacterial density of the inoculum: 12x10^4 colony-forming units / mL
Preparation: The activated sludge was filtered through a fluted filter. The first 200 mL were discarded. The filtrate was kept under aerobic conditions to beginning of the test .

Duration of test (contact time):
35 d
Initial test substance concentration
Initial conc.:
15 mg/L
Based on:
test mat.
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation
Parameter followed for biodegradation estimation:
CO2 evolution
Details on study design:
The necessary amounts of nutrient medium and inoculum were given in each of the incubation flasks. The vessels were connected to a system of CO2-free air and ventilated for 24h.
The test and reference substance concentrations were added to the incubation vessels, filled with CO2-free double-distilled water up to 3l and connected to a system of CO2-free air.
The incubation was performed in a temperature range between 22 ± 2 ° C in a water bath.
On day 35 1 mL of conc. HCl was added to all incubation flasks.
The ventilation was continued for 24 h and on day 36, the final amount of released CO2 was determined.
