Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Koc (adsorption) ranged from 119 to 584, kf (adsorption) ranged from 4.09 to 20.75, Koc (desorption) ranged from 164 to 850, kf (desorption) ranged from 1.16 to 30.2295/36/EC Annex I: 7.1 & 7.1.2, , Brandelli, 2000.
Koc (desorption) ranged from 32.3 to 116.2 on day 0 and between 237.5 and 7906.3 on day 85, EPA 163-1, Lowery, 2000.
Koc (adsorption) average 79, Koc (desorption) ranged from 29 to 147, average 121, Koc (desorption) ranged from 103 to 2809, average 121, EPA 163-1, Schwartz, 1999.
The KOC Adsorption value used in the risk assessment was calculated as the arithmetic mean of the 3 soils in Brandelli (2000): 119, 584 and 417 l/kg and the 5 soils from the Schwartz study (1999): 78, 29, 147, 33, 110 and give a KOC of 190 L/kg.

Additional information

Three studies have been provided on a weight of evidence basis to address the adsorption, desorption capacity of the test material. Brandelli (2000), Lowery (2000) and Schwartz (1999) determined the Koc values for both adsorption and desorption via the batch equilibrium method.

Brandelli (2000) determined the Koc and kf (Freundlich adsorption constants) of the test material in three representative soils. Adsorption constants ranged from Koc 119 to 584 and kf 4.09 to 20.75, desorption constants ranged from Koc 164 to 850 and kf 1.16 to 30.22. Lowery (2000) determined the Koc values for desorption in five representative soils, assessing the effect of increasing time. On Day 0 Koc values ranged from 32.3 to 116.2 in comparison to Day 85 where Koc values ranged from 237.5 to 7906.3. Schwartz (1999) determined the Koc values for both adsorption and desorption in five representative soil samples. Adsorption values ranged from Koc 29 to 147, with an average of 79, desorption values ranged from Koc 103 to 2809, with an average of 121.

All three studies were performed according to GLP and standardised guidelines, with a high level of reporting and have thus been assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the principles for assessing data quality set out by Klimisch (1997). All studies are considered to be reliable, relevant and adequate for risk assessment purposes.
