Available data show that the substance has no adverse effects on aquatic organisms. Further L-serine has a low potential to absorb to organic material. Since L-serine is readily biodegradable (it is mineralised rapidly in aerobic systems), it is not applied directly to soil and L-serine is not expected to be transferred indirectly to soil in significant quantity via disposal of STP sludges or aerial deposition, significant exposure of the terrestrial compartment to L-serine is unlikely to occur. Therefore soil is not expected to be a compartment of concern. The risk to soil dwelling macroorganisms is negligible. For this reason and in accordance with REACH Annex IX Section 9.4. column 2 this study does not need to be conducted.
