The substance is typically manufactured in a water based process and is supplied in water as a liquid solution. The pure substance is not normally isolated and especially dried samples were necessary to prepared to allow completion of some of the physico-chemical studies.

Most testing has been performed on the sodium salt which has identical properties and uses and read-across applies without restrictions. This is considered a valid approach where testing takes place in biological systems.

The reason for selling the potassium salt for specific customers is where there are applications where the presence of sodium ions may affect customer formulations.
