Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Acute toxicity to fish: an acute fish toxicity test using a fresh water fish (Oryzias latipes) was conducted according to OECD TG 203 and under GLP. The LC50 (96 h) was 27.7 mg/L, based on measured concentrations (CERI, 1997).

Repeated toxicity (14 day) to fish: in a test according to OEDCD TG 204 and under GLP using a fresh water fish (Oryzias latipes), the LC50 (14d) was > 20 mg/L. Behavioral changes were seen in approx. 50% of the fish at nominal 8 mg/L, during days 1 through day 14 (CITI, 1997).

The LC50 (48 h) of 3, 5, 5-trimethylhexan-1-ol to larvae of Xenopus laevis was 13.5 mg/L. The sensitivity of this species was reportedly comparable to that of fish (De Zwart and Slooff, 1987).

The acute toxicity to Daphnia was EC50 (48 h) = 6.77 mg/L (CITI, 1997).

The long term toxicity to Daphnia of 3, 5,5 -trimethylhexan-1 -ol was tested in a Daphnia reproduction test according to OECD TG 202, Part 2, under GLP for 21 days at concentrations up to nominal 5 mg/L (measured 3.87 mg/L). The effect data are as follows:

Mortality: 21 day LC50 > 3.87 mg/L

Reproduction: 21 day ErC50 = 2.09 mg/L (95% c.i.: 1.94 - 2.25 mg/L); NOECr = 1.46 mg/L; LOECr = 3.87 mg/L

However, according to OECD TG 202 the exposure concentration selection should be based on the EC50 (24 h) for immobilization, starting at about the 24 h EC50 and ending at about 1/100 of the 24 h EC50. The effects of the test concentrations were far lower (CITI; 1997).

The acute toxicity to algae was tested according to OECD TG 201usingSelenastrum capricomutumunder GLP conditions in the concentration range up to 50 mg/L (nominal). The calculated growth inhibition was as follows

EbC50 (0 -72 h) = 19.5 mg/L (measured concentration)

ErC50 (24 -72 h) >50 mg/L (measured concentration) (CERI, 1997).
