Additional information

The acute toxicity of Tetramethyltrimethylenediamine (TMPDA) to Daphnia magna was assessed according to EPA OTS 797.1300 (Aquatic Invertebrate Acute Toxicity Test, Freshwater Daphnids) (Pedersen, 2004). The organisms were exposed to a concentration range of 2.5 to 160 mg/L during 48 hours. The concentration of test substance was analyzed in the stock solution in order to futher estimate the actual concentrations in the test vessels. Based on the measured concentration, the EC50 values based on nominal concenrtrations were recalculated to estimated actual EC50 values as well. The validity criteria were fulfilled. Based on the test results the 48h EC50 of TMPDA for daphnia was determined to be 62.4 mg/L based on nominal concentrations and 52.8 mg/L based on estimated concentrations.

As a supporting study, the acute toxicity of TMPDA was also assessed according to German Standard DIN 38412, part 11 (Boutonnet, 1991). The organisms were exposed to a concentration range of 1.953 to 125 mg/L during 48 hours. The concentrations were not measured in the vessels during the test but since TMPDA is expected to be stable in water, there are no cause of significant deviation from nominal to real substance concentrations. Based on the test results the 48h EC50 of TMPDA for daphnia was determined to be 60.3 mg/L based on nominal concentrations.
