Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

After inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If breathing becomes difficult, call a physician.

After skin contact: In case of contact, immediately wash skin with soap and copious amounts of water.

If available, best apply polyethylene glycol (e.g. Lutrol, PEG 400) and allow some minutes for it to take effect before rinsing with water.

After eye contact: In case of contact with eyes, flush with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Assure adequate flushing by separating the eyelids with fingers. Call a physician.

After ingestion: If swallowed, wash out mouth with water provided person is conscious. Call a physician.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: Suitable: Water spray. Carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder, or appropriate foam.

Special risks: Specific Hazard(s): Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions. Combustible liquid. Explosion Hazards: Container explosion may occur under fire conditions. Hazardous decomposition products such as Nitrous gases (nitric oxides) may occur.

Special protective equipment for firefighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.

Specific method(s) of fire fighting: Cool surrounding containers with water spray. If possible, take container out of dangerous zone.

Heating causes a rise in pressure, risk of bursting and explosion. Shut off sources of ignition.

Accidental release measures

Personal precaution procedures to be followed in case of leak or spill:

Evacuate area. Warn affected surroundings

Procedure(s) of personal precaution(s):

Wear respiratory protection, eye protection, hand protection and body protection. Wear disposable coveralls and discard them after use.

Environmental precautions:

Inform respective authorities in case of seepage into water course or sewage system. Do not allow to enter sewers/ surface or ground water

Methods for cleaning up:

Absorb any spilt liquid with an absorbent (e.g. diatomite, vermiculite, sand) and hold for waste disposal. Pump off larger quantities. Afterwards ventilate area and wash spill site.

Handling and storage

Handling: Directions for Safe Handling:

Provision of very good ventilation in the working area especially at higher temperatures. Avoid splashing. Avoid any contact when handling the substance. Use protective equipment while cleaning if necessary.

Storage: Conditions of Storage: Keep container closed. Keep away from heat and open flame. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.

Exposure controls / personal protection

1. Technical protection measures

Substance is combustible. Fire fighting equipment must be available. Washing facility at the workplace required. Eye bath required. These locations must be signposted clearly.

2. Organisational protection measures

An escape and rescue plan must be prepared when the location, scale, and use of the work-site so demand.

It must be assured that the workplace limit values are being maintained. If the limit values are exceeded, additional protection measures are necessary

3. Hand protection

Use protective gloves. Textile or leather gloves are completely unsuitable.

The following materials are suitable for protective gloves (Permeation time >= 8 hours):

Fluoro carbon rubber - FKM (0,4 mm)

Following materials are unsuitable for protective gloves because of degradation, severe swelling or low permeation time:

Natural rubber/Natural latex - NR; Polychloroprene - CR; Nitrile rubber/Nitrile latex - NBR; Butyl rubber - Butyl; Polyvinyl chloride - PVC

4. Body protection

Depending on the risk, wear a tight, long apron and boots or suitable chemical protection clothing.

5. Eye protection

Sufficient eye protection should be worn. Wear glasses with side protection

6. Respiratory protection

In an emergency (e.g.: unintentional release of the substance, exceeding the occupational exposure limit value) respiratory protection must be worn. Consider the maximum period for wear.

Respiratory protection: Gas filter A, Colour code brown.

Use insulating device for concentrations above the usage limits for filter devices, for oxygen concentrations below 17% volume, or in circumstances which are unclear.

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable under normal conditions of use and storage. The substance forms an explosive mixture with air on heating.

Thermal decomposition: Decomposition when heated.

Materials to Avoid: Oxidizing agents; Acids; Halogens; Acid halides; Anhydrides; Nitrites.

Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Hazardous polymerization: Will not occur

Disposal considerations

SUBSTANCE DISPOSAL:

This combustible material may be burned in a chemical incinerator equipped with an afterburner and scrubber. Contact a licensed professional waste disposal service to dispose of this material. Observe all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
