EC number: 215-553-5
CAS number: 1330-86-5
NOEC (3h) >= 350 mg/L (nominal) for respiration inhibition of activated sludge (OECD 209)
No studies investigating the toxicity of Diisooctyl adipate (CAS
1330-86-5) to aquatic microorganisms are available. Therefore, in
accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of
substances, a read-across to the structurally related category members
Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) and Diisononyl adipate (CAS
33703-08-1) was conducted. Further justification is given within the
endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification section 13.In
this case of read-across, the best suited (highest degree of structural
similarity, nearest physico-chemical properties) read-across substance
within this category was used.
The test with Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) was conducted
according to EU Method C.11 using activated sludge (BASF, 1986). No
adverse effects on respiration were observed at 350 mg/L. Therefore, the
NOEC (3h) is assessed as >= 350 mg/L (nominal) and the EC50 (3) > 350
The test with Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) was conducted
according to ISO 8192 using domestic, activated sludge as test organism
(BASF, 1990).Test concentrations of 1001.2, 498.4 and 198.8 mg/L
were applied. The E20 (0.5h) was calculated as > 1000 mg/L (nominal),
based on respiration inhibition.
Due to structural and property similarities to the analogue
substances Diisononyl adipate (CAS 33703-08-1) and
Bis(2-ethylhexyl)adipate (CAS 103-23-1) these results are also
applicable to read across to Diisooctyl adipate (CAS 1330-86-5).
