Description of key information

'Yellow disazo condensation pigments' are with high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.
No toxic effects occur at the range of the substances solubility.
EC50 (48h) > 100 mg/L (nominal) for Daphnia magna (OECD 202, EU Method C.2)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity on aquatic invertebrates was investigated for two ‘yellow disazo condensation pigments’ (CAS 68516-73-4 and CAS 5580-57-4) with the waterflea Daphnia magna as test species (CETA, 2011; CETA, 2001). Based on the low water solubility of the test item, saturated stock solutions were prepared and the tests were conducted as limit tests with a nominal concentration of 100 mg/L. For one study (CAS 68516-73-4), which was conducted under GLP conditions according to OECD guideline 202, the stock solution was filtered through 0.45 µm filter (CETA, 2011). In the other non-GLP study according to EU Method C.2 (CAS 5580-57-4), the stock solution was used without filtration (CETA, 2001). Hence, non-dissolved material was observed in the test vessels, which disturbed the measurement of the oxygen content in the test solution. However, in both studies the EC50 values after 48 hours of exposure are above the 100 mg/L test item concentration.
