Short-term toxicity to fish: No sufficient data available


According to Regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Annex IX, Section 9.1.3, Column 2, the study on the short-term toxicity to fish does not need to be conducted if long-term aquatic toxicity study on fish is available. Based on ECHA decision number CCH-D-2114552926-38-01/D, the Registrant will perform long-term toxicity testing on fish, i.e. a study according to OECD TG 210 (Fish, Early-Life Stage Toxicity Test).


 


Long-term toxicity data to fish: The Registrant agrees to perform long-term toxicity testing on fish, i.e. a study according to OECD TG 210 (Fish, Early-Life Stage Toxicity Test). This information will be submitted later based on ECHA communication/decision number CCH-D-2114552926-38-01/D.


 


Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates: With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic invertebrates.


Key study: BASF AG (1999, report no.: 99/0066/50/1). OECD 202, Daphnia magna:


48-h EC50 = 28.7 mg/L (nom., analytically verified), without pH-adjustment


48-h EC50 > 100 mg/L (nom., analytically verified), with pH-adjustment


The observed mortality is most likely due to the pH shift in the test solutions caused by the substance, but not due to an inherent toxic effect of the substance.


 


Long-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:


Key study: Read across to structurally similar substance: Triethylamine (121-44-8): NITE (J-CHECK databank, published data, 2016), OECD 2011, Daphnia magna: NOEC 21d = 11 mg/L (nominal)


 


Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria: Acutely toxic to aquatic algae.


Key study: BASF SE (2013, report no. 60E0302/10X309): OECD 201, Desmodesmus subspicatus:


72-h ErC50 = 6.89 mg/L (measured)


72-h ErC10 = 2.89 mg/L (measured)


 


Toxicity to aquatic microorganisms: The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Conclusion: Based on the available experimental data for the substance itself and the experimental data from the read-across to the structurally similar substances N,N-dimethyl-ethylamine, N,N-dimethyl-butylamine and triethylamine, dimethyl(propyl)amine (CAS 926-63-6) is considered to be acutely toxic to aquatic organisms.
