Description of key information

TMT 55: no flammability on ignition
TMT 55, TMT anhydrous: no pyrophoricity
TMT 55, TMT anhydrous: no flammability on contact with water

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The testing result for the substance TMT 60 which is similar to TMT 55 shows a short burning, fast extinguishing and no propagation of flame (combustion class 2 according VDI 2263, Part 1). The substance is considered as non flammable.

Since TMT anhydrous is neither manufactured nor imported testing of flammability on ignition of this form is not needed because no exposure is possible.

Based on the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

TMT 55

The available data on flammability of the TMT 55 do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

No propagation of burning in a test according to VDI 2263. Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

TMT anhydrous

There is no data available on flammability on ignition for the substance TMT anhydrous. Since TMT anhydrous is neither manufactured nor imported testing of flammability on ignition of this form is not needed because no exposure is possible. Nevertheless based on the chemical structure pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected for TMT anhydrous and therefore the reason for no classification as pyrophoric solid or flammable on contact with water is conclusive but not sufficient for classification.
