Description of key information

Experimental data are only available for 1 category member, tetradec-1-ene. No effects on mortality were observed at concentrations up to 31428µg/g dry weight in 14 day tests. In 70 day tests a concentration of 10026ug/g dry weight resulted in no mortality, but completely inhibited reproduction.

Visser (2003) investigated the acute and chronic effects of tetradec-1 -ene on earthworms following a non-standard method. Natural soil was exposed to tetradec-1 -ene in the field. Samples of soil were collected over time and used to test the toxicity of the test substance to earthworms in laboratory bioassays. The collected soil samples were analysed for physico chemical parameters and the concentration of the test substance. Earthworms were exposed to the soil samples and the effects on 14 day survival or 70 day growth and reproduction recorded.

In the 14 day tests no effects on mortality were observed at concentrations up to the highest test concentration of 31428µg/g dry weight. Only a single test concentration of 10026ug/g dry weight was used for the 70 day test. At the test concentration no effects on mortality were observed but an approximate 50% reduction in growth was seen and reproduction was completely inhibited. Therefore, the NOEC reproduction cannot be calculated from this test.
