Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest. If not breathing, if breathing is irregular or if respiratory arrest occurs, provide artificial respiration or oxygen by trained personnel. It may be dangerous to the person providing aid to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Get medical attention if adverse health effects persist or are severe. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain an open airway. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. In case of inhalation of decomposition products in a fire, symptoms may be delayed. The exposed person may need to be kept under medical surveillance for 48 hours.
Eye contact: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Check for and remove any contact lenses if easy to do. Continue to rinse for at least 10 minutes. Get medical attention.
Skin contact: Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water removing all contaminated clothes and shoes. If skin irritation persists, call a physician. Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
Ingestion: Wash out mouth with water. Move exposed person to fresh air. Keep person warm and at rest. If material has been swallowed and the exposed person is conscious, give plenty of water to drink. Stop if the exposed person feels sick as vomiting may be dangerous. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical personnel. If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low so that vomit does not enter the lungs. Get medical attention if adverse health effects persist or are severe. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. If unconscious, place in recovery position and get medical attention immediately. Maintain an open airway. Loosen tight clothing such as a collar, tie, belt or waistband. Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
Fire-fighting measures
The product is an aqueous solution - unlikely to burn: In case the product is involved in a fire:
Suitable extinguishing media:
Water spray (fog), foam, dry chemical powder or CO2.
Not suitable: High volume water jet.
Special exposure hazards: No specific fire or explosion hazard. Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. This material is very toxic to aquatic organisms. Fire water contaminated with this material must be contained and prevented from being discharged to any waterway, sewer or drain.
Hazardous combustion products: Decomposition products may include the following materials: carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrogen cyanide.
Special protective equipment for fire-fighters: Fire-fighters should wear appropriate protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) with a full face-piece operated in positive pressure mode.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions: No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.
Environmental precautions: Very toxic to aquatic organisms. Avoid dispersal of spilt material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers. Inform the relevant authorities if the product has caused environmental pollution (sewers, waterways, soil or air).
Methods for cleaning up:
Large spill: Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas. Vacuum, sweep up or absorb spill with inert material (e.g. dry sand or earth) and place in a designated, labelled waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Handling and storage

Recommended monitoring procedures
If this product contains ingredients with exposure limits, personal, workplace atmosphere or biological monitoring may be required to determine the effectiveness of the ventilation or other control measures and/or the necessity to use respiratory protective equipment. Reference should be made to European Standard EN 689 for methods for the assessment of exposure by inhalation to chemical agents and national guidance documents for methods for the determination of hazardous substances.
Risk management measures - Occupational exposure controls
Technical measures: If this product contains ingredients with exposure limits, use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation or other engineering controls to keep worker exposure below any recommended or statutory limits.
Personal protection measures
Respiratory protection: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. Use a properly fitted, air-purifying or air-fed respirator complying with an approved standard if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary. Respirator selection must be based on known or anticipated exposure levels, the hazards of the product and the safe working limits of the selected respirator.
Eye protection: Safety eyewear complying with an approved standard should be used when a risk assessment indicates this is necessary to avoid exposure to liquid splashes, mists, gases or dusts. Recommended: Tightly-fitting safety goggles with side-shields, face-shield.
Hand protection: Chemical-resistant, impervious gloves complying with an approved standard (EN374) and considering the permeation breakthrough time should be worn at all times when handling chemical products if a risk assessment indicates this is necessary.
Suitable glove materials: Nitrile rubber, neoprene.
After contamination with product change the gloves immediately and dispose of them according to relevant national and local regulations.
Skin and body protection: Personal protective equipment for the body should be selected based on the task being performed and the risks involved and should be approved by a specialist before handling this product.
Hygiene measures: Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating, smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period. Appropriate techniques should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Do no eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.
Environmental exposure controls
Prevent product from entering drains. Do not contaminate surface water. Avoid subsoil penetration.
Technical measures: Emissions from ventilation or work process equipment should be checked to ensure they comply with the requirements of environmental protection legislation. In some cases, fume scrubbers, filters or engineering modifications to the process equipment will be necessary to reduce emissions to acceptable levels.
Stability and reactivity
Stability: The product is stable when stored at room temperature in closed, original container. Stable under normal conditions of handling, use and transportation. Stable if protected from heat and exposure to air.
Possibility of hazardous reactions: Reacts with acids under release of toxic and highly flammable carbon disulfide. May be corrosive in contact with metals.
Conditions to avoid: Freezing conditions. Protect from air oxidation by blanketing container with a dry, inert gas. Do not allow solution to evaporate to dryness. Storage at temperatures above 30° C is NOT recommended.
Decomposition temperature: ca. 150°C (solid substance). Hazardous decomposition products: Carbon disulfide, hydrogen sulfide.
Heating or fire can release toxic gas: Carbon oxides, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides.
Materials to avoid: Acids, oxidizing agents.
Disposal considerations
Disposal considerations
Methods of disposal: Examine possibilities for re-utilisation. Product residues and uncleaned empty containers should be packaged, sealed, labelled, and disposed of or recycled according to relevant national and local regulations. Where large quantities are concerned, consult the supplier. When uncleaned empty containers are passed on, the recipient must be warned of any possible hazard that may be caused by residues.
Classified as hazardous waste according to national equivalent of EC Directive 91/689; disposal of toxic and hazardous waste. For disposal within the EC, the appropriate code according to the European Waste List (EWL) should be used. It is the task of the polluter to assign the waste to waste codes specific to industrial sectors and processes according to the European Waste List (EWL).
