Description of key information

In accordance with Section 9.4,3 Column 2, Annex IX of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, the equilibrium partitioning method was used to assess the hazard to soil organisms, in the absence of toxicity data for terrestrial plants;  extrapolation from aquatic (pelagic) toxicity data was required, as there are not available data from toxicity studies representing more than one soil-dwelling organism.   In addition, the hazard to soil organisms was also evaluated on the basis of short-term toxicity to the soil invertebrate Eisenia fetida (earthworm), in accordance with the procedures for the derivation of a PNECsoil value (ECHA, Chapter R.10, Characterisation of dose[concentration]-response for environment, of Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, May 2008, Section R.10.6, p. 39).  The PNECsoil based on equilibrium partitioning (1,500 mg/kg d.w.) was higher than the PNECsoil based on soil macro-organisms (1mg/kg dw); therefore, the PNECsoil value based on acute earthworm toxicity (i.e., the lower value of the two alternate PNECsoil values) became the PNECsoil final value used in the chemical safety assessment.  Since the chemical safety assessment did not indicate the potential for a harmful effect upon terrestrial organisms, toxicity testing of terrestrial plants is not indicated.
