Description of key information

In a GLP study conducted according to OECD Guideline 115, the surface tension of an aqueous solution of trisodium EDDS at a concentration of 1.01 g/L was 73.3 mN/m at 20oC  (van Helvoirt, 1993c).

Additional information

In a GLP study conducted according to OECD Guideline 115, the surface tension of a aqueous solution of trisodium EDDS was determined using the suspended ring method. The test material was prepared as a solution in double-distilled water (1.01 g/L) and the tensiometer used had a platinum-iridium wire ring with a radius of 9.545 mm. The mean corrected surface tension determined from five measurements was 73.3 mN/m at 20°C. Trisodium EDDS is not considered a surface-active agent based on EEC criteria (van Helvoirt, 1993c), and a similar result would expected for EDDS acid.

[Data on trisodium EDDS is considered relevant to use for understanding the potential surface tension of EDDS acid, and is acceptable for using as read-across information. On structural grounds the surface tension is not expected to differ significantly.]
