Description of key information

1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was tested in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209. The 180 minutes EC20 value was 960 mg/L to the oxygen consumption of activated sludge micro-organisms in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test. The EC50 was >1000 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
920 mg/L

Additional information

1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was tested in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209. The nominal concentrations of the test item were 10, 100, 250, 500, 1000 mg/L. The incuabtion time was 180 minutes. The following effect concentrations (mg/L) were obtained based on nominal concentrations: The per cent inhibition (EC10; EC20; EC50 and EC80 ) were calculated by Probit analysis according to Finney. The values were given with a accuracy of 2 significant digits.

EC10 (180 min) = 920 mg/L nominal

EC20 (180 min) = 960 mg/L nominal

EC50 (180 min) > 1000 mg/L nominal

EC80 (180 min) >1000 mg/L nominal

In a supporting study, toxicity of 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-y l)ethyl)sulfate on microorganisms was investigated by determing the effects on respiration rate for a period of 30 min in an activated sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD guideline 209.

The EC20-, EC50- and EC80 -values (30 min) were > 1000 mg/ L.
