Aquatic Toxicity:

1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was tested for aquatic toxicity in anumber of tests including OECD guideline 203, acute toxicity to fish, OECD guideline 202, acute toxicity to daphnia, OECD guideline 201, acute toxicity to algae and OECD guideline 209, toxicity to microorganisms.

Fish:

The 96 hour LC50 value for 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate the zebrafish (Danio rerio) was > 3.85 mg/L and the 96 hour NOEC value for test item the zebrafish (Danio rerio) was >= 3.85 mg/L based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations. No toxic effect was observed up to the solubility limit of the test substance in water.

Daphnia:

The 48 hour EC50 value for 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate in the Daphnia magna study was > 3.73 mg/L and the 48 hour NOEC value was >= 2.58 mg/L based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations.

Algae:

The 72 hour EC50 values for 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate were 0.136 mg/L EbC50 and > 1.58 mg/L for the ErC50 based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations. The 72 hour NOEC values for the test item were 0.0402 mg/L NOECb and 0.0772 mg/L for theNOECr based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

The 180 minutes EC20 value of 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was 960 mg/L to the oxygen consumption of activated sludge micro-organisms in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test. The EC50 was >1000 mg/L.
