Description of key information

1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was tested in a carbon dioxide evolution test according to OECD guideline 301B. The biodegradation of the test item is 26 % (28th day). In this test, the test substance is considered partly or moderately biodegradable, but the test substance is considered not readily biodegradable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate was tested in a carbon dioxide evolution test according to OECD guideline 301B. The test was left running for 28 days. Aniline was chosen as positive control. Biodegradation of the positive control was 99.7% (28th day). The biodegradation of the test item is 26 % (28th day). In this test, the test substance is considered partly or moderately biodegradable, but the test substance is considered not readily biodegradable.

An insufficient biodegradation was measured ; the test substance may nevertheless be inherently biodegradable. This has to be shown with the help of further investigations, for example with a Semi Continuous Activated Sludge (SCAS) Test for adaptation of the

biological system to the test substance. Subsequent to this preliminary a carbon dioxide evolution test with adapted microorganisms can be performed .
