First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If inhaled remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give

artifical respiration. If breathing is difficult, give

oxygen. Seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of eye contact, flush eyes with plenty of clean

water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if

irritation persists.

Emergency measure - Skin: In case of skin contact, immediately flush skin with plenty

of clean water for at least 15 minutes while removing

contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical attention if

irritation persists. Wash contaminated clothing before

re-use.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Chemical powder, carbon dioxide or water spray.

Product arising from burning: Oxides of carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and metal oxide together

with some soot.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Self-contained breathing equipment.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear suitable protective clothing. (see 2.3.1)

For initial containment, dike the spill. Prevent the

material from entering sewers, waterways or low areas prior

to treatment. For spill cleanup soak up with sawdust, sand,

Oil-Dri or other absorbant material. Shovel or sweep up

debris and dispose of in accordance with local regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Test substance will be stored and handled in closed

equipment. Workers will be required to wear full clothing,

impervious gloves, and eye protection (safety glasses or

chemical splash goggles). Engineering controls will include

adequate ventilation.

Storage: Test substance will be stored in a closed tank which will be

hard-piped to the polymerization reactor. Pumping into and

from the tank will be by mechanical means.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: 1,000 liter stainless steel containers.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance cannot be recovered once processed into the

final product.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not recommended.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incinerate at a suitable facility.

This is the recommended method of destruction.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not recommended.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance will only enter the public domain as a bound

component of a polymer. Recovery is not feasible.
