Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from source of dust and obtain medical attention if

symptoms develop.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with water without delay and obtain medical attention

if any symptoms persist.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash thoroughly with water and obtain medical attention if

symptoms develop.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Remove material from mouth. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of water

(or milk). If large amount swallowed or symptoms develop,

obtain medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon and sulphur oxides

together with some soot. The recommended extinguishing

medium is water. Any tanker involved in a fire should be

kept cool with water spray.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Solid: Vacuum clean or moisten and sweep up. Place waste

material in a container for disposal at an approved

landfill site or incinerator. Solution: Absorb spills with

sand or earth. Collect and dispose of as for solids. Wash

away residue or small spillages with low pressure water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid prolonged skin contact. The principle method of

control for the substance should be total enclosure. Where

there is an operator interface, local exhaust ventilation

should be used (where relevant, in a segregated area)

together with personal protection (normal protective

clothing, PVC gloves, dust mask and goggles) as a secondary

precaution.

Storage: Store away from strong oxidisers.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: The substance slowly hydrolyses to the carboxylic acid and

phenol.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Fines and coarse material from granules can be recycled.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Spillages may be neutralised with 2% sodium perborate

solution.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal at a landfill site is possible. Residues from

spillages may be discharged into water systems after

dilution with water.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance may be incinerated in an approved facility.

Waste gas purification to remove sulphur oxides should be

used.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance is biodegradable but to reduce impact on a

system, prior dilution is advised.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from preparations is not possible.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable at the concentration available to the

public.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Preparations containing the substance may be disposed of as

domestic waste.
