Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The test item has not to be classified as oxidising solid, oxidising liquid or oxidising gas.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Oxidising gases

The test item is a solid at ambient conditions. This hazard class is only applicable for gases. Thus, the substance was not considered for classification as oxidising gases.

Oxidising liquids

The test item is a solid at ambient conditions. This hazard class is only applicable for gases. Thus, the substance was not considered for classification as oxidising liquids.

Oxidising solids

BATTELLE 2003a

An experimental study was conducted according to EEC Method A.17 to determine the oxidizing properties of the test item. Therefore, the burning time of different mixtures of test item and cellulose were compared to the burning time of the reference substance barium nitrate mixed with cellulose. As the barium nitrate reference material used had not been pre-ground and as result burnt too slowly when mixed with cellulose. This resulted in a wrong conclusion being made on the oxidizing properties of the test item.

BATTELLE 2003b

An experimental study was conducted according to EEC Method A.17 to determine the oxidizing properties of the test item. Therefore, the maximum burning rate of different mixtures of test item and cellulose were compared to the max burning rate of the reference substance barium nitrate mixed with cellulose. The maximum burning rate of test item/cellulose mixture was found for the mixture with 10 % test item and was equal to 0.78 mm/s. This value is lower than the maximum burning rate of barium nitrate (1.05 mm/s for mixture with 60 % barium nitrate). Thus it was concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Based on a weight of evidence approach it is concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Based on available data and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 (CLP), as amended for the fifteenth time in Regulation (EU) 2020/1182, and UN GHS Rev 8 (2019) the substance is not considered to be classified for oxidising properties.
