- Executive summary:
The aim of this study was to determine experimentally the water solubility on the test item “Reaction product of copper sulfate andtetraethylenepentamine”according to the OECD 105 guideline.
The study was carried out in accordance with the study plan No.17/1207F/a dated January 19, 2018.There was no deviation and no amendment during this study. The results of this study are summarized below:
The water solubility of the test item was evaluated in a preliminary test. The estimation of solubility was performed after shaking (10 min at vortex) and visual assessment of the solubility.
Taking the visual observations into account, the preliminary test indicated that the test item was highly soluble in water: water solubility was expected between 200 g/L and 1000 g/L and the flask method was suited.Three flasks were used to mix 3 x 5 g of the test item with 5 mL of distilled water. Flasks were placed in a temperature controlled incubator at 30°C (monitored and recorded) and under stirring at 165 rpm. After 24 hours, one flask was removed and placed in another temperature controlled oven at 20 +/- 0.5°C during 24 hours. After separation of insoluble by centrifugation, the concentration of the test item in the supernatant was then determined following the analytical method ICP/OES. The other flasks were treated similarly after initial equilibration at 30°C for 2 and 3 days respectively. The pH of samples were measured at 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. The temperature was monitored and recorded during the test and the temperature was well maintained at 20 +/- 0.5°C.
Water solubility results for each replicate are presented below:
-
- T24 hours: Test item concentration : 610 g/L ; pH: 8.81
-
- T48 hours: Test item concentration : 639 g/L ; pH: 8.81
- - T72 hours: Test item concentration: 626 g/L ; pH: 8.82
- As required by the guideline, the concentration measured in the last vessels do not differ by more than 15 %. Thus, as shown by these results, the water solubility of the test item is 625 g/L. Conclusion: The water solubility of the test item “Reaction product of copper sulfate andtetraethylenepentamine”is 625 g/L at 20 ± 0.5°C.
