Additional information

One study is available on the short-term toxicity of 3-(Hexyloxy)-1.2-propanediol (CAS No. 10305 -38 -1) to aquatic invertebrates. This key study was performed according to OECD guideline 202 and GLP (Bouwman, 2013). The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to the test substance in a static system for 48 hours at nominal test concentrations of 0, 0.10, 1, 10 and 100 mg/L. Analyses of the samples taken during the study were based on total organic carbon, since it proved impossible to develop a specific analytical method to accurately measure 3-(Hexyloxy)-1.2-propanediol concentrations in aquatic samples. Results showed measured carbon concentrations of 63.6 and 62.3 mg/l in samples taken from nominally 100 mg/l at the start and the end of the 48-hour test period. These results showed that the measured concentration was stable and, based on a carbon content of 61%, actual concentrations were between 102 and 104% relative to nominal. Given these results, the effect parameters were based on nominal concentrations. No immobilisation was observed at any of the test concentrations, hence the EC50 was reported to be > 100 mg/L (nominal).
