Reference
Endpoint:
relative self-ignition temperature (solids)
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
14 Feb 1996 to 15 Feb 1996
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.16 (Relative Self-Ignition Temperature for Solids)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Name: FAT 40'549/A
Batch no.: TV 1
Colour: yellow-brown
Aggregate State at room temp: Solid
Stability in Solvent: in water: 48 hours
Stability at storage conditions: Stable
Molecular Weight: 1138 g/mol (free acid)
Analysis: HPLC
Storage: At room temperature
Expiration Date: January 01, 2001
Relative self-ignition temperature:
> 435 °C
Remarks on result:
other: At the end of the test, FAT 40549/A coloured black.

No strong exothermic reaction was observed up to 435 °C, during the performance of the auto-flammability test. But at the end of the run, FAT 40549/A was coloured black.

Conclusions:
The self ignition temperature of FAT 40549/A was found to be greater than 435 degree celcius. FAT 40'549/A is not auto-flammable
Executive summary:

The determination of the relative self-ignition temperature of the test article was performed according to the EEC directive 92/69, A. 16: "Relative self-ignition temperature for solids" (1992).

FAT 40'549/A was placed in an oven at room temperature. The temperature / time curve relating to conditions in the centre of the sample was recorded while the temperature of the oven was increased near to 400 °C at a rate of 0.5 °C/min. The temperature of the oven at which the sample temperature reaches 400 °C by self heating is called the self ignition temperature.

No strong exothermic reaction was observed up to 435 °C, during the performance of the auto-flammability test. At the end of the run, FAT 40'549/A was coloured black.

The self ignition temperature of FAT 40549/A was found to be greater than 435 degree celcius. FAT 40'549/A is not auto-flammable.

Description of key information

The self-ignition temperature was found to be greater than 435 degree C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
435 °C
