Short-term toxicity to fish

No experimental data are available for DAP-MCDA; therefore, the acute toxicity to fish was determined using the model 'Automated workflow for estimation of EC50/LC50 for fish' in QSAR Toolbox v4.3.1 for the two representative constituents of DAP-MCDA (N1,N3-bis(3-aminopropyl)-4-methyl-cyclohexane-1,3-diamine (BI 858010) and N1,N3-bis(3-aminopropyl)-2-methyl-cyclohexane-1,3-diamine (BI 858015)).

The 96h-LC50 of both constituents was estimated to be 596 mg/L.

Therefore, it can be concluded that DAP-MCDA is with high probability acutely not harmful to fish.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Daphnia magna, OECD 202, GLP, analytically verified concentrations (BASF SE, 2019, report no: 50E0592/17E029): 48 -h EC50 = 4.83 mg/L (nominal, 95% CL: not determined)

DAP-MCDA is acutely toxic to aquatic invertebrates.

Toxicity to aquatic algae

Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata, OECD 201, GLP, analytically verified concentrations (BASF SE, 2019, report no: 60E0592/17E030): 72 -h ErC50 = 0.49 mg/L (geometric mean, 95% CL: 0.405 - 0.594 mg/L), 72 -h ErC10 = 0.076 mg/L (geometric mean, 95% CL: 0.052 - 0.105 mg/L)

DAP-MCDA is acutely very toxic to freshwater algae.

Toxicity to microorganisms

Activated Sludge Respiration inhibition test according to OECD 209, GLP (BASF SE, 2018; report no.: 08G0592/17G605): 3-h EC10 = 220 mg/L (95% CL: n.d. - 450.7 mg/L), 3 -h EC20 = 520 mg/L (95% CL: 0.0 - 3459.0 mg/L) and 3 -h EC50 >1000 mg/L

It can be concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
