Official classification

In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, Annex VI Table 3.1 or Table 3.2, DAP-MCDA is officially not classified.

Self-classification

Aquatic compartment

Following GHS, the substance is to be classified as acutely hazardous to the aquatic environment (Category Acute 1). Based on the available acute and chronic data, the substance is to be classified as chronically hazardous to the aquatic environment (Category Chronic 1).

Rationale:

In accordance with Table 4.1.0(a) (Commission Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 amending Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008), the substance is to be classified as acutely hazardous to the aquatic environment, since the lowest acute effect value is < 1 mg/L (72 -h ErC50 = 0.49 mg/L, algae).

Chronic data are only available for algae; therefore, classification is based on the available chronic and acute toxicity data.

- Chronic toxicity data:

Considering the long-term toxicity data to algae the 72-h ErC10 was determined to be 0.076 mg/L. As the lowest chronic effect value is < 0.1 mg/L, the substance represents a longterm hazard according to the categories outlined in Table 4.1.0(b) (i) (Commission Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 amending Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) for non-rapidly degradable substances (Category Chronic 1).

- Acute toxicity data:

Classification based on the available acute toxicity data for the most sensitive trophic level not covered by long-term data is aquatic invertebrates with an 48 -h EC50 of 4.83 mg/L. The substance is not rapidly biodegradable. According to the categories outlined in Table 4.1.0(b) (iii) (Commission Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 amending Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008), DAP-MCDA represents a long-term hazard to the aquatic environment (EC50 > 1 to ≤ 10 mg/L; Category Chronic 2).

In conclusion, the substance is to be classified as Chronic 1.

As DAP-MCDA is classified as Acute 1 and Chronic 1, multiplying factors have to be derived for highly toxic components of mixtures according to Table 4.1.3 (Commission Regulation (EU) No 286/2011 amending Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008). Based on the lowest effect value for acute toxicity (0.1 < L(E)C50 <= 1 mg/L), the M factor is 1. Based on chronic toxicity (0.01 < NOEC/EC10 <= 0.1 mg/L), the M factor is 1 as the substance is non-rapidly degradable.
