Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiment starting at 175°C (448K). Melting of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Based on this, the test item has no melting temperature. - Executive summary:
The melting temperature of Acetic acid, oxo-, sodium salt, reaction products with ethanolamine and phenol, sodium hydroxide and ferric chloride was tested by DSC.
Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiment starting at 175°C (448K). Melting of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Based on this, the test item has no melting temperature.
Reference
An endothermic effect was observed between 25°C and 175°C directly followed by an endothermic and exothermic effect (starting at 175°C). Based on the weight loss observed during the preliminary test between 50°C and 200°C and according to test item information, the first endothermic effect was due to evaporation of volatile components (i.e. water). The second endothermic effect and exothermic effect were due to reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.
After the experiment, a black residue remained in the sample container (original colour: dark purple to black). The change of the colour indicated reaction and/or decomposition of the test item.
Description of key information
Reaction and/or decomposition of the test item was observed during DSC experiment starting at 175°C (448K). Melting and/or boiling of the test item was not observed below the temperature at which reaction and/or decomposition started. Based on this, the test item has no melting and/or boiling temperature.
