Description of key information

The inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
290 mg/L

Additional information

The inhibiting effect of N-benzylethylenediamine (CAS 4152 -09 -4) on the respiration rate of domestic activated sludge was studied according to OECD 209 under GLP (BASF SE, 2019; report no. 08G0503/17G679). The oxygen consumption was affected by the substance. The 3 -h EC50 was determined to be 290 mg/L (nominal, 95% CL: 187.9 to 453.2 mg/L). The test met all validity criteria.

It can be concluded that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated when introduced in appropriately low concentrations.
