Description of key information

The no effect concentration based on growht rate has been determined to be 31.3 mg/L after 72 h in an algae toxicity test according to OECD201. An inhibition of the growht rate or the yield has not been observed, therefore the EC50 is above 100 mg/L.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
31.3 mg/L

Additional information

Toxicity of TMA-Tempo on green algae has been tested in an toxicity test according to OECD guideline No. 201 (2011) in GLP-compliance. Test concentrations of 100, 31.3, 9.77, 3.05 and 0.954 mg/L were tested in a static test for 72 h. The analytical measured concentrations were stable and showed good recovery at test end. Therefore, the toxicological endpoints were based on the nominal concentrations.

After 72 h, no inhibition of growth rate or yield was observed for test item concentrations up to and including 31.3 mg/L. Significant inhibitory effects were observed for growth rate and yield at test item concentrations of 100 mg/L (nominal). The overall LOEC was therefore determined to be 100 mg/L (nominal), the corresponding NOEC was set at 31.3 mg/L (nominal). The inhibition of all parameters (growth rate, yield) were below 50 %. Therefore, the EC50 -value for growth rate and yield was considered to be > 100 mg/L (nominal).
