First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Move victim to fresh air. In all cases get medical attention
and monitor victim for shock.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately irrigate with large quantities of water for at
least 15 minutes
Emergency measure - Skin: Immediately remove clothing and wash with large quantities
of soap and water for at least 15 minutes.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: To extinguish a fire use water, carbon dioxide, foam or dry
chemical.

Product arising from burning: Nitrogen and carbon oxides may be formed together with
halogen containing products.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: A self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Do not touch spilled material.

Wet spills: Deactivate with sodium bisulfite or sodium
thiosulfate at pH greater than seven. Flush away in
accordance with local waste water regulations. Absorption
after deactivation and neutralisation with sand followed by
disposal (as for a dry spill) is also possible.

Dry spill: Colect in a clean, dry container. Deactivate
spill area as in a wet spill. Dispose of solid waste
according to local regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Personnel handling product must use impervious gloves,
safety goggles and respiratory equipment (dry dust masks,
full face masks with Wilson G-8 canisters or self contained
breathing apparatus depending on the dust levels). Avoid
contact with all oxidisable substances, acids, alkalis,
hydrates and water.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place isolated from all organic
material. Product is a strong oxidiser and is corrosive.
Avoid heat or direct sunlight.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Not given, 6th amendment notification.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Contact with oxidisable materials presents a fire hazard.

Chemical reaction with water: Hydrolysis releases hypochlorous acid or hypochlorite ion
(and hence ultimately chlorine gas).

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: None

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Neutralise the substance by using sodium hydroxide (20%) to
adjust a solution of sodium metabisulphite to ph8 and then
add the hydantoin. Maintain the solution at a pH greater
than 7.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: The substance should not be discharged to waterways or waste
treatment plants. The residues obtained following
deactivation (see 6.1.2) may be discharged in accordance
with local regulations

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance can be incinerated. Suitable stack scrubbers
should be employed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: The substance should not be discharged directly to a water
purification station unless it has been deactivated.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: None
