First-aid measures

General information

If threatening unconsciousness, position and transport in recovery position

Remove contaminated clothing immediately and dispose it safely.

In case of breathing difficulties give oxygen.

In case of inhalation:

Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him immobile.

Seek medical treatment immediately.

In case of skin contact:

In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with plenty of water.

Remove contaminated clothing immediately, even underwear and shoes.

Immediate medical treatment necessary, as untreated burns can result in slow-healing wounds.

In case of eye contact:

Eye rinsing with water carefully while protecting unhurt eye.

Call for a doctor immediately.

In case of ingestion:

Do not give neutralising liquids.

Do not induce vomiting.

Call for a doctor immediately.

Give plenty of water to drink in small sips.

Physician's information / possible dangers:

Risk of stomach and gullet perforation.

Continued inhaling can cause lung oedema.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media:

Dry fire-extinguishing substance

Carbon dioxide

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

Water

Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases:

Risk of formation of toxic pyrolyse products.

In the event of fire the following can be released: Carbon monoxide (CO), Hydrogen chloride (HCl).

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

Use breathing apparatus with independent air supply.

Wear full protective clothing.

Do not inhale explosion and/or combustion gases.

Additional information:

Inhalation of dangerous decomposing products may cause severe damages to health.

Keep people away and stay on the upwind side.

Fire residues and contaminated firefighting water must be disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions:

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Use personal protective clothing.

Keep away sources of ignition.

Environmental precautions:

Do not discharge into the drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods for cleaning up:

Absorb spillage to prevent material damage (P390).

Take up with absorbent material (e.g. sand, kieselguhr, acid binder, general-purpose binder, sawdust).

Send in suitable containers for recovery or disposal.

Neutralize with sodium carbonate or slaked lime.

Handling and storage

Risk Management Measures: This substance is handled under Strictly Controlled Conditions in accordance with REACH Regulation Article 18(4) for transported intermediates and ECHA Guidance on Intermediates, version 2-December 2010 (Reference: ECHA-2010-G-17-EN). The substance is used only in one site in the EU, with the Importer and the User being the same legal entity. Site documentation to support safe handling arrangements including the selection of engineering, administrative and personal protective equipment controls in accordance with risk-based management systems is available at the use site.

Advice on safe handling:

While handling with warm product suck off vapours and wear respiratory protection.

Care for suitable extraction / ventilation at processing machines.

Treatment only in suitable rooms and systems.

Use only acid-proof equipment.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion:

The product is not combustible, but supports burning.

Take precautionary measures against static discharges (earthing /grounding at pouring )

Pay attention to general rules of internal fire prevention.

Requirements for storage rooms and vessels:

Use container that resist to strong acids.

Ventilate store-rooms thoroughly.

Provide acid-resistant floor.

Keep only in original container.

Advice on storage compatibility:

Do not store with acids, alkalies or combustible materials.

Do not store with oxidizing agents.

Further information on storage conditions:

Keep container tightly closed and store at cool and aired place.

Protect from light.

Protect from atmospheric moisture and water

Protect from extreme heat and cold.

Respiratory protection:

In case of insufficient ventilation or long-term effect use breathing apparatus.

In case of rescue and maintenance activities in storage containers use environment-independent breathing apparatus.

Hand protection:

Gloves made of nitril rubber (NBR).

Glove material specification [make/type, thickness, permeation time/life, wetting resistance]:

For special purposes, it is recommended to check the resistance to chemicals of the protective gloves mentioned above together with the supplier of these gloves.

The quality of the protective gloves resistant to chemicals must be chosen as a function of the specific working place concentration and quantity of hazardous substances.

Eye protection:

Safety goggles, in case of increased risk add protective face shield.

Skin protection:

Light protective clothing, thick material.

General protective measures:

Do not inhale vapours.

Absolutely avoid contact with skin, possibility of strong erosions and burns because of hygroscopic effect.

Avoid contact with the eyes.

Hygiene measures:

Clean skin thoroughly after working.

Wash hands thoroughly after handling (P264).

At work do not eat, drink, smoke or take drugs.

Wash contaminated clothing before reuse (P363).

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid:

Corrosive to metals.

Corrodes aluminium.

Avoid light.

Materials to avoid:

Reactions with acids, alkalies and oxidising agents.

Reactions with numerous chemical compounds, especially those with mobile hydrogen atoms.

Violent reactions with water and/or alcohols, with formation of hydrochloric acid.

Hazardous decomposition products:

In case of influence of moisture formation of hydrogen chloride.
