TREATMENT OF TEST MATERIAL PRIOR TO TESTING
- Treatment of test material prior to testing: 0.1003 g of the substance was weighed into a 100 ml volumetric flask and made up with HPLC water
to make a 1g/l test sample solution. The solution was placed on a magnetic stirrer to equilibrate overnight.
When the solution was removed from the stirrer, it still appeared very cloudy. It was noticed that there were solid particles on the surface of the liquid as well as suspended within the main body of the liquid.
There was a homogeneous layer of material below the surface layer of floating solids, this was pipetted out to test for the surface tension. The sample produced appeared to be a cloudy liquid.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of the reaction mass of amines, hydrogenated tallow alkyl and azelaic acid and lithium hydroxide was determined to be 52.9 mN/m at 19.9 °C.
Executive summary:

The study to determine the surface tension of the substance, reaction mass of amines, hydrogenated tallow alkyl and azelaic acid and lithium hydroxide, was performed according to the OECD 115 guideline using ring method (Crane 2018). The method is based on the measurement of the force which it is necessary to exert vertically on a stirrup or ring, in contact with the surface of the liquid, in order to separate it from the surface.

The determination of surface tension was compromised by the nature of the sample. However, a solution was prepared at the maximum permissible concentration. The test item was weighted into a volumetirc flask and a 1 g/L solution was prepared with HPLC water. Despite the presence of small amounts of suspended material, it is considered that this is the best approach possible and has produced a representative result.

The surface tension of the reaction mass of amines, hydrogenated tallow alkyl and azelaic acid and lithium hydroxide was determined to be 52.6mN/m based on 5 measurements. A correction factor of 1.007 was applied comparing a deionised water sample with the factory calibration value, this was used to adjust the values recorded in this study. The corrected surface tension of the test item was 52.9 mN/m.
