Experimental studies investigating the short-term toxicity of Reaction mass of 2-hydroxyethyl laurate and ethylene dilaurate (EC 908-917-6) to aquatic organisms are available for three trophic levels. All studies were performed under GLP conditions and according to standard OECD guidelines. The algae (Desmodesmus subspicatus) turned out to be the most sensitive species with an ErC50 (72 h) of 0.243.11 mg/L (meas., geom. mean) and an ErC10 of 176.72 µg/L (meas., geom. mean) followed by Daphnia magna with an EC50 (48 h) of 1.11 mg/L (meas.) and Danio rerio with a LC50 (96 h) >0.536 mg/L (meas-, arithm. mean). Since the test item was not stable under test conditions the biological results were based on the actual measured test item concentrations (geometric mean, time weighted average and mean measured concentrations).

Furthermore the substance did not cause inhibition of biodegradation in the toxicity control of a biodegradation study according to OECD 301 B with activated sludge from a sewage treatment plant. Therefore, inhibition of the degradation process in sewage treatment plants is not expected.
