Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If any trouble breathing, get immediate

medical attention. Administer artificial

respiration if breathing has ceased. If irritation or

symptoms occur or persist, consult a physician.

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of eye contact, immediately rinse eyes thoroughly

with plenty of water. If wearing contact lenses, remove only

after initial rinse, and continue rinsing eyes for at least

15 minutes. If irritation occurs or persists, consult a

physician.

Emergency measure - Skin: In case of skin contact, while wearing protective gloves,

carefully remove any contaminated clothing, including shoes,

and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If irritation

or symptoms occur or persist, consult a physician.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Rinse mouth and drink a glass of water. Do not induce

vomiting unless under the direction of a qualified medical

professional or Poison Control Center.

If symptoms persist, consult a physician immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, carbon dioxide, and chemical powder.

Product arising from burning: Carbon oxides (COx). Hydrogen fluoride (HF). Boron oxides.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Full protective equipment must be worn including self-

contained breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Evacuate personnel from immediate vicinity.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment conforming to

the relevant national or international standards.

Contain spillages with a suitable inert material (e.g. sand

or soil). Carefully transfer the spillage to waste

containers. Containers must be labelled in the same way as

original containers.

Clean the spillage area with water and detergent.

Dispose of waste material by incineration in accordance with

local regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: This material will be handled within Schering-Plough by

qualified personnel and under controlled conditions.  This

material will not be available to the general public.  As

part of the Schering-Plough Industrial Hygiene Risk

Management program, workplace risk assessments are conducted

to identify the appropriate control strategies, including

engineering controls, personal protective equipment and work

practices, to provide adequate protection of the production

and laboratory personnel who handle this material.

Sampling and splitting the material in the Warehouse is

performed within laminar airflow booths with appropriate

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  On the plant, Powder

Transfer System (PTS, vacuum operated), supplemented by

local exhaust ventilation (LEV) and PPE are used for all

manual handling operations. Finally, reaction mixture

solution sampling via Top Reactor Sampler (Rapid Transfer

Port).  Contained sampling unit, minimal exposure to

reaction mixture

Keep container adequately sealed during material transport

or when material is not in use.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Double polyethylene lined bags within fibre-board drums.

Typical weight of 25 kg per drum.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Excessive heat. Oxidizers. Strong acids

Chemical reaction with water: Unknown.

Dust explosion: The substance is an organic powder presenting the

possibility of a dust explosion.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: The substance is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of

an active pharmaceutical ingredient.  Therefore it is

expected that it will be consumed in the processes where it

is employed.  Hence the need for recovery/recycling of the

substance does not apply in this case.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Any waste substance should be incinerated in a regulated

incinerator.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction - others: Not applicable as substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate

and is completely consumed during processing.
