Description of key information

Reaction mass of aluminium and magnesium oxide and spinel (Mg(AlO2)2) are non toxic via the oral route. Since it is very likely that Al skimmings will be not bioavailable via the dermal route, the dermal LD50 is estimated to be greater than 5000 mg/kg bw. Reaction mass of aluminium and magnesium oxide and spinel (Mg(AlO2)2) are not inhalable (MMAD > 100 µm).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
5 000 mg/kg bw

Acute toxicity: via dermal route

LD50
Value:
2 000 mg/kg bw

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The oral LD50 is estimated to be 5000 mg/kg bw (ATC method). The dermal LD50 is estimated to be in the same range or even higher based on the predicted lack of absorption via the dermal route.
