Description of key information

HFE s-601 is considered to be not toxic to aquatic organisms at the limit of water solubility.

Additional information

All of the aquatic tests were conducted well above the water solubility limit of HFE s-601.  Short-term fish and invertebrate tests, as well as algae tests, were done using water accomodated fractions.  Fish (Oryzias latipes) and invertebrates (Daphnia magna) were tested in semi-static tests at a loading rate of ca. 80 mg/L.  Toxicity to algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) was studied in a static test done at much higher loading rates (ca. 0.8 - 3.3 g/L).  In all cases, time-weighted average concentration was similar to the water solubility limit.  No toxic effects were observed in any tests.  In addition, no effect was found in a test on activated sludge dosed directly to a concentration of 1000 mg/L. Therefore, HFE s-601 is considered to be not toxic at the limit of water solubility.
