Description of key information
The substance Dipentaerythritol hexaesters of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic and n-heptanoic acids (CAS 1379424 -11 -9) is not considered to be harmful to aquatic organisms, based on read-across from a suitable source substance with adequate and reliable studies on short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates (OECD 202) and fish (OECD 203) and toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria (OECD 201).
A detailed analogue approach justification is provided in the technical dossier (see IUCLID section 13).
Additional information
There are no data available on the acute aquatic toxicity of Dipentaerythritol hexaesters of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic and n-heptanoic acids (CAS 1379424-11-9).
In order to fulfil the standard information requirements set out in Annex VII, a read-across from one structurally related substance was conducted, in accordance with Article 13 (1) and Annex XI, 1.5 of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006.
The structurally similar source substance is Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids, C5 and C9iso (EC 444 -000 -2, formerly identified as CAS 647028-25-9). Ecotoxicological parameters for the aquatic toxicity of the target substance Dipentaerythritol hexaesters of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic and n-heptanoic acids (CAS 1379424 -11 -9) and the source substance are presented in the following table:

The source and target substances are structurally similar characterised by the same alcohol component (dipentaerythritol) and similar fatty acid chain lengths (C7 and C9iso for the target substance compared to C5 and C9iso for the source substance). Based on the structural, physico-chemical and ecotoxicological similarities, reading across between target and source substances is justified (see data matrix including all relevant available ecotoxicological data, as well as other physical and toxicological data).
A detailed analogue approach justification is provided in the technical dossier (see IUCLID section 13).
A study investigating the short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates for the source substance Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids, C5 and C9iso (EC 444 -000 -2) is available. No effects were observed up to the limit of water solubility.
One study with algae is available for the source substance Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids, C5 and C9iso. No effects were observed up to the limit of water solubility.
A toxicity to microorganisms study is available for the source substance Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids, C5 and C9iso (EC 444 -000 -2). No effects were observed in the range of water solubility of the test substance.
An OECD 203 GLP-study is available for the source substance Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids, C5 and C9iso (EC 444 -000 -2). No effects on fish were observed up to the solubility limit.
Based on the available studies, the source substance Dipentaerythritol with fatty acids C5 and C9iso ( EC 444 -000 -2) is not considered to be harmful to aquatic organisms and no classification for these hazards is applicable, in accordance with Regulation (EC) .
In accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5, grouping and read-across, the available data from suitable source substance allows an accurate assessment of the ecotoxicity profile of the target substance Dipentaerythritol hexaesters of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic and n-heptanoic acids (CAS 1379424 -11 -9). Therefore, the substance Dipentaerythritol hexaesters of 3,5,5-trimethylhexanoic and n-heptanoic acids (CAS 1379424 -11 -9) is not considered to be harmful to aquatic organisms.
