Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
08 May 2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Version / remarks:
2005
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
other: In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Results

Preliminary Test

The test item did not ignite at room temperature using a flame as ignition source being applied for at least 2 minutes. The test item melted.

Main Test

In the preliminary test the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Final Results

The test item could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. The test item melted.

The test item is classified as follows:

UN Transport Regulation: The test item does not have to be classified as readily combustible solid in class 4.1 according to the UN Transport Regulation.

GHS (CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008: Annex 1: 2.7): The test item does not have to be classified as flammable solid according to GHS I CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7.

Description of key information

not flammable

not pyrophoric

no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The substance is not flammable according to UN Test N.1.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance is completely molten at a temperature well below 160 °C and therefore shows not self-heating behaviour if it is not absorbed on a large surface.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance is not flammable according to UN Test N.1 and has not to be classified as flammable solid according to GHS / CLP Regulation EC 1272/2008 Annex 1: 2.7.

The available data on flammability in contact with water, pyrophoricity and self-heating of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008, and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance is completely molten at a temperature well below 160 °C and therefore shows not self-heating behaviour if it is not absorbed on a large surface.
