- Endpoint:
- substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The substance does not contain metals of metalloids and all metal elements included are present as oxides or salts (impurities).
In general, the substance does not contain chemical groups that might lead to ignition in contact with water and/or to the evolution of a flammable gas.
Also, in the water solubility test there was no observation of reaction or ignition upon contact with water and/or evolution of gases.
Therefore the substance is concluded to be ‘not highly flammable’ in contact with water. - Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
- data waiving: supporting information
- Endpoint:
- pyrophoric solids
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:
- the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
- Justification for type of information:
- JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In general, the substance does not contain chemical groups that might lead to ignition in contact with air (all metal elements included are present as oxides or salts (impurities)).
Also, the storage conditions for the substance mentioned in the study report is 'at room temperature'.
Therefore the substance is concluded to possess ‘no pyrophoric properties’. - Endpoint:
- self-heating substances / mixtures
- Data waiving:
- study scientifically not necessary / other information available
- Justification for data waiving:

- Justification for type of information:
- In addition to the data waiving statement above, the following should be considered:
- the substance does not contain flammable or reactive impurities
- in TGA tests with the substance, apart from evaporation of moisture, no relevant effects related to melting or decomposition were observed up to approx. 600°C. This also is an indication for the substance not being a self-heating substance at 140°C. - Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
- data waiving: supporting information

Description of key information
The substance is a mixed metal oxide, produced through calcination at high temperatures (ca. 550°C), and not containing flammable or reactive impurities.
Therefore it is concluded that the substance will not be flammable upon application of a hot flame, not flammable in contact with water or air, and not a self-heating substance.
Thus none of the flammability tests is considered scientifically necessary.
Key value for chemical safety assessment
- Flammability:
- not classified
Additional information
Justification for classification or non-classification
Based on information of the production process, experience during use and handling as well as evaluation of structural features the substance was concluded to be not flammable upon application of a hot flame, not flammable in contact with water or air, and not a self-heating substance.
Classification according to Regulation No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP) is therefore deemed not necessary.
