Description of key information
In an immobility test with Daphnia magna, the 48h-EC50 of the test item was 22.16 mg/L. The growth rate inhibition effect concentrations with their respective 95% lower and upper confidence limits for the inhibition of growth rate were ErC10 = 49.17 (39.74 – 60.84) mg/L, ErC20 = 78.87 (61.50 – 101.16) mg/L and ErC50 = > 100 mg/L.

A study was performed to assess the toxic effects on Daphnia magna caused by exposure to 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol under static conditions. Based on results of the preliminary range finding study, the concentrations selected for the main study were 11.9, 17.8, 26.7, 40.0 and 60.0 mg/L along with control. In the main study, a 48 h static toxicity test procedure was followed, comprising five groups along with control. Each group consisted of four replicates with 5 daphnids per replicate. The stability of 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol in test media was performed during method validation (JRF Study N° 228-2-13-20647) and 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol was stable up to 48 h (>80% of nominal concentration). Test media were analysed for 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol concentration and stability to monitor the concentrations of test solution at 0 and 48 h during main study. The concentrations of 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol in test media were within acceptable limits (>80% of nominal concentration). The 24 and 48 h EC50 of the test item was 39.85 and 22.16 mg/L, respectively.
A study was performed to assess the inhibitory effects of 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol on the growth of alga, (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) under static condition. Exponentially growing cultures of P.subcapitata were exposed to nominal test concentrations of 0.0 (control), 12.0, 20.4, 34.6, 58.8, and 100.0 mg 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol/L. The algal cultures were assessed for the growth by visual cell count at 24, 48 and 72 h. The stability of the test item in test media was performed during method validation (JRF Study N° 228-2-13-20647) and the test item in test media was stable up to 72 h (>80% of nominal concentration). Test media were analysed for 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol concentration and stability to monitor the concentration of test solution at 0 and 72 h during main study. The concentration of the test item in test media was within acceptable limit (>80% of nominal concentration). A concentration-effect relationship was observed and statistically analysed to obtain effect concentrations. The growth rate inhibition effect concentrations with their respective 95% lower and upper confidence limits for the inhibition of growth rate were ErC10 = 49.17 (39.74 – 60.84) mg/L, ErC20 = 78.87 (61.50 – 101.16) mg/L and ErC50 = > 100 mg/L. The biomass inhibition effect concentrations with their respective 95% lower and upper confidence limits for the biomass inhibition were EbC10 = 19.07 (15.36 - 23.66) mg/L, EbC20 = 29.17 (24.92 - 34.15) mg/L and EbC50 = 65.81 (56.43 -76.76) mg/L. The yield inhibition effect concentrations with their respective 95% lower and upper confidence limits for the yield were EyC10 = 20.33 (16.53 - 24.99) mg/L, EyC20 = 29.70 (25.45 - 34.67) mg/L and EyC50 = 61.35 (53.15 – 70.83) mg/L. Based on results of the statistical analysis, the NOEC and LOEC values for biomass (cell growth), growth rate and yield were 20.4 and 34.6 mg 2-(N-ethylanilino)ethanol/L, respectively.
