Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The study was conducted according to OECD Guideline 121, Estimation of the Adsorption Coefficient (KOC) on Soil and on Sewage Sludge using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
At pH values of 2 and 10, the k’ for phenol, dodecyl-, sulfurized, carbonates, calcium salts, overbased could not be calculated for both the 5.0 and 10 mg L-1 test concentrations. This was because there were no substantial sample peaks observed in any of the chromatograms. It has been demonstrated that the test substance has a chromophore and therefore is assumed to have been retained on the column and has been assigned a log10 KOC value of >5.0.

Additional information

A reliability rating of 1 was assigned to the key study, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as the study was conducted in accordance with recognised guidelines and GLP.

The substance is composed of a series of alkylated phenol species of variable composition and a highly refined, lubricant base oil necessary to act as a solvent for the synthetic reaction and to optimize the reaction kinetics used in the substance’s manufacture. Attempts to remove this base oil from the substance result in changes to the other components’ original structures and the physicochemical characteristics of the substance as a whole. With this in mind, the substance is being registered to include the base oil as a component of the substance and thus the base oil is present in the test material.
