Conclusion on classification

In order to compare the experimental results among the different EDTA species the results were related to the H4-EDTA by molecular-weight correction.

Degradation

Biodegradation: not readily biodegradable but ultimately biodegradable under special conditions.

Bioaccumulation

Log Kow: -3.8 at ambient temperature at pH value of 7.2 to 8.7 (OECD 105, 107 and 117)

Aquatic acute toxicity

For fish: 96 h, LC50 (Lepomis macrochirus): >100 mg/L under environmental relevant conditions

For aquatic invertebrates: 48 h, EC50 (Daphnia magna): 140 mg/L

For algae/aquatic plant: 72 h, ErC50 (Desmodesmus subspicatus): >100 mg/L

Aquatic chronic toxicity (for each species only one key information)

For fish: no data available

For aquatic invertebrates: 21 d, NOEC (Daphnia magna): 25 mg/L

For algae/aquatic plant: 72 h, EC10 (Desmodesmus subspicatus): >100 mg/L

Based on the data above, the substance isnot readily biodegradable but ultimately biodegradable under special environmental conditions. The acute aquatic toxicity L(E)C50 values are > 100 mg/L for fish, invertebrates and algae. Therefore, the substance does not need to be classified and labelled as acute aquatic hazardous according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).

Valid chronic toxicity data are available. The lowest NOEC of 25 mg/L was determined for invertebrates. Therefore, the substance does not need to be classified and labelled for long-term aquatic hazards according to the consolidated version of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) and all further amendments.
