Description of key information

Boiling point: DTPMP (1-3Na) is expected to melt above 450°C and to undergo thermal decomposition without boiling.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the boiling point of DTPMP (1-3Na) was waived because the substance is expected to have a melting temperature of >450°C (>723 K) and to decompose without boiling. This statement is supported by the evidence from a DSC study which demonstrates that the anhydrous form of the parent acid (DTPMP-H) has a melting temperature of >450°C and gradually decomposes when heated. See melting point study reported in Section 4.2. Salts would be expected to undergo thermal decomposition in the same way as the parent substance.

Similarly, in a secondary source to which no reliability could be assigned, an aqueous solution of DTPMP-2Na was reported to have a boiling temperature of >100°C, with decomposition temperature of >200°C following the evaporation of water.
