Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

Use water spray (not stream) to fight fires. alcohol-resistant foam , extinguishing powder . For laboratory-standard quantities: carbon dioxide .

Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons:

According to our present state of knowledge: none known .

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

At low oxygen level: organic decomposition products.

Advice for firefighters

Special protective equipment for fire fighting: Use respiratory protection independent of recirculated air.

General information: Fight fire from a safe distance.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Wear personal protection equipment (see Exposure controls/personal protection). Avoid dust formation. Do not breathe dust.

Environmental precautions

Cover any spilled material in accordance with regulations to prevent dispersal by wind.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Take up mechanically and dispose of according to local/state/federal regulations. Avoid formation of dust and dust deposition. Clean up with plenty of water. Dispose of cleansing water in accordance with local/state/federal regulations.

Further information: Eliminate all sources of ignition.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Avoid dust formation.

Precautions against fire and explosion: Avoid formation of dust - dust may form explosive mixture with air. Avoid dust deposit, remove dust regularly. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charging. Take precautionary measures against dust explosion. Observe the general rules for fire prevention.

Conditions for storage rooms and vessels: Observe precautionary measures against dust explosion.

Advice for storage of incompatible materials: none known .

Further information for storage: Risk of dust explosion. Keep container tightly closed.

General protection and hygiene measures:

Observe standard industrial hygiene practices for the handling of chemical substances. Do not breathe dust.

Personal protection equipment:

Respiratory protection

Respirator must be worn if exposed to dust. Filtering half-face mask, according to acknowledged standards such as EN 149.

Recommended Filter type: Particle filter P1 or equivalent filter, according to acknowledged standards such as EN 143

Eye protection

In case of dust formation: tight fitting protective goggles .

Hand protection

Use of protective gloves is recommended when handling the material. For the choice of suitable gloves, workplace conditions have to be considered, like e.g. handling of other substances and materials.

Recommended glove types: Rubber gloves

Skin protection

Recommendation in case of dust formation: protective clothing

Exposure to the environment limited and controlled

Prevent material from entering surface waters and soil.

Stability and reactivity

If stored and handled in accordance with standard industrial practices no hazardous reactions are known.

Conditions to avoid

Keep away from incompatible substances.

Incompatible materials

Reacts with: oxidizing agents .

Hazardous decomposition products

If stored and handled properly: none known .

Disposal considerations

Material

Recommendation:

Dispose of according to regulations by incineration in a special waste incinerator. Small quantities may be disposed of by incineration in an approved facility. Observe local/state/federal regulations.

Uncleaned packaging

Recommendation:

Completely discharge containers (no tear drops, no powder rest, scraped carefully). Containers may be recycled or re-used. Observe local/state/federal regulations.
