Materials and methods

Principles of method if other than guideline:
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of mixtures (including the test substance) extracted from poly(HEMA)-gels on the tissue reactions when applied intradermally or implanted into an experimental organism. The tissue reaction was determined by measuring 113In.

other: intradermal or implantation

Results and discussion

Details on results:
When using the implant technique, the rapidity of diffusion of the test substance from the implant was found to be rather slow; the concentration of the test substance in its surroundings did not reach the threshold value to produce a pertinent tissue reaction. Similar results were obtained after intradermal application of the test substance.
