The surface tension of a 90% saturated solution of test item in water has been determined to be 63.5 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C. The test item is not considered to be a surface-active substance.
Executive summary:

The surface tension was determined according to EU Method A.5 and OECD TG 115 using the ring method under GLP. The test system considered of a torsion balance for surface and interfacial tension measurements. The measuring body consisted of a 4 cm circumference platinum (Du Nouy) ring. In order to calculate the surface tension, the mean test item sample solution reading was calculated from those values obtained from the apparatus considered to be on a consistent data plateau. This value was then multiplied by the mean calibration factor (Φb), established from the bracketing surface tension values obtained from the apparatus for the purified water common to tensiometer calibration and the sample solution preparations. The surface tension result was not corrected using the Harkins-Jordan correction table as the correction is not applicable to the apparatus used. Once calibrated, the balance and ring assembly used in this test give a direct reading for surface tension that is within the required accuracy (± 0.5 mN/m); this is as a result of the reduced ring dimensions. This deviation has been considered not to have affected the integrity of the study. Substances showing a surface tension lower than 60 mN/m under the conditions of this method, should be regarded as being surface active. The surface tension of a 90% saturated solution of test item in water has been determined to be 63.5 mN/m at 20.0 ± 0.5 °C. The test item is not considered to be a surface-active substance.
